Letter to Grade 8 families: 2024 secondary enrolment

Dear families of students in Grade 8,

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is looking forward to welcoming your child(ren) to secondary school in the fall. In the coming weeks, you will receive information from your child’s current school about opportunities for school visit(s) to the secondary school and about the course selection processes.

This September, all students attending secondary school will be expected to attend their assigned home school, with the exceptions noted below. You can confirm your child(ren)’s home school (the school within your home address catchment boundary area) through the My Bus to School website.

Here are the exceptions:

  • Students currently enrolled in Grade 8 French Immersion (FI) who will be attending Grade 9 FI, IF their home school does not offer the program. Note: students who attend an out of catchment boundary school to continue FI studies will only be allowed to remain in the out of catchment boundary school as long as they are enrolled in the FI program. If a student chooses to leave the FI program, they will be required to return to their home school.
  • Students currently enrolled in the Grade 8 Practical Academics and Life Skills (PA&LS) program who will be attending Grade 9 PA&LS IF their home school does not offer the program.
  • Students in Grades 9-12 who currently attend an out of catchment boundary secondary school will not be required to move to their home school and may continue to attend the out of catchment boundary school until they graduate. These students will not be eligible for transportation provided by TLDSB.
  • If you have a student entering Grade 9 who will have a sibling attending an out of catchment boundary secondary school in 2024-2025 and would also like to attend that same school, please contact that secondary school to confirm the Grade 9 students’ attendance.

If you have any questions, contact the Board through email to executive assistant, Lisa Dow, at lisa.dow@tldsb.on.ca.

Sincerely,

Kim Williams

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Facility Services staff, Technology Services staff, and school administrators will continue to monitor infrastructure and power/internet/network outages at individual school locations over the weekend.

Families can expect communications from the Board on Sunday evening regarding any school closures and/or transportation for Monday, April 7.

We are incredibly thankful for the commitment and resilience of all staff, students, and their families this past week in dealing with the widespread damage and disruption across the Board.

Please know that our school staff remain committed to supporting families. Parents/guardians are encouraged to reach out to their school principal for assistance, if needed.
